Dear All,

I have started Embrel Injections and on Tuesday I did my 6th injection.

I have development a very big lump which is very red and very swollen where I did the injection, It looks as though the fluid has has gathered causing the swelling.

It has gone down a bit from yesterday and the redness and swelling has spread across my leg.

Has anybody else had this from the Enbrel Injection.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Many Thanks

Hi Michelle
I had a few injection site reactions with Enbrel but they were only ever minor. The itch was the main reaction really, some redness and swelling too. I always injected into my stomach, not leg. Injection site reactions seem to be common but if they are more severe, I think the advice is to report them. Can you ring your rheumy nurse for reassurance and advice?
Hope it settles quickly

Hi Michelle

As Diane has already said please do report this reaction to rheumatology so at least they are aware of it. I stopped injecting into my leg very quickly because of the pain and similar reactions and always thereafter pinched a bit of tummy and injected slowly to allow the Enbrel to dissipate. Sometimes if you inject too quickly the fluid can get trapped and may be the cause of a reaction.

Try bathing the area with warm water and a cloth; it may help the swelling to settle. Hope things improve soon,

Hi Michelle - I had exactly this reaction after about 4the jab. I didn't report it until after the 7th jab, by which time my whole leg was swollen and red hot. I took a photo on my camera to show my Rheumy nurse and she said I had to stop immediately.

Don't do another jab till you have seen your rheumy team about this. I went to Cimzia after Enbrel and had no reaction to it. Hope you can get some advice soon. Let us know how you get on xx Ailsa

I would think about having some anti histamine
But it could be infection

I red lumps down my sides and site reactions. They itched and drove me mad
Saw dermatology
They gave me creams
Also piriton

Itmeant I could carry on with the enbrel

Hi
I was on Enbrel for about 9 months. I used an epipen type of injection which used to sting like hell when injected into my leg and swell into a hard raised lump. Myrheumy nurse told me to use my tummy instead which I did not fancy at all, thinking it would be much more painful but in fact it hardly stung at all and left just a red mark, hardly anything in comparison! Anyway hope you sort it soon, good luck.

Hi All,

Thanks for your updates, I spoke with the Rhuemmy Nurse who advised me to use the other leg, which I did and this has done the same as last week.

I have a blood test booked on tuesday with my doctors so im going to ask the nurse to show me how to try this in my tummy.

I then have my next hospital visit in 2 weeks time, so hopefully will get sorted, if doesnt work in my tummy maybe will need to try something else.

will keep you posted
